Frequently Asked Questions
What types of remodeling projects do you specialize in?
We specialize in kitchen remodels, bathroom remodels, whole-home renovations, additions, accessory dwelling units and custom carpentry. Whether you’re updating a single room or transforming your entire home, we bring the same attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Do you provide free estimates?
Yes, we offer free in-home consultations and estimates for all remodeling projects in Ashland and the surrounding areas. This helps us understand your goals, budget, and timeline before work begins.
How long does a typical remodeling project take?
The timeline depends on the size and scope of your project. A bathroom remodel might take 3–4 weeks, while a full kitchen remodel may take 6–8 weeks. Larger renovations can take several months. We provide a detailed schedule before starting so you know what to expect.
Do I need permits for my remodel, and do you handle that process?
Most remodels require city permits. We take care of all permitting and inspections to ensure your project complies with local Ashland building codes.
What areas do you serve outside of Ashland, OR?
In addition to Ashland, we serve Talent, Phoenix, Medford, and other nearby Southern Oregon communities.
Design & Planning
Can you help with the design, or do I need to hire an architect first?
We offer design assistance and can handle most remodels without an outside architect. For larger structural changes, we work closely with trusted architects and designers.
Do you offer 3D renderings or design previews before construction begins?
Yes, we can provide digital design previews so you can see how your remodeled space will look before construction starts.
How far in advance should I schedule my remodel?
We recommend reaching out 2–3 months before you’d like to start. This gives us time to finalize designs, order materials, and schedule your project.
Costs & Financing
How much does a kitchen/bathroom remodel typically cost?
Costs vary depending on size, materials, finishes, plus any repairs to the current condition of your home. We’ll provide a detailed, transparent estimate in writing before you commit.
It’s important to keep in mind that once we open up walls and flooring, we might find other things that need repairs, but if we come upon unforeseen circumstances we’ll go through the change in writing with you with another cost estimate.
What factors affect the total cost of a remodel?
Main factors include the size of the space, material selections, structural changes, plumbing/electrical work, and finishes. We work with you to stay on budget without sacrificing quality.
Do you require a deposit, and how does payment work?
Yes, we typically require a deposit to secure your project on our schedule. Payments are then made in stages as the project progresses.
During the Remodel
Will I need to move out during the remodel?
Not always. Many homeowners stay in their homes during remodeling, especially for smaller projects. For larger jobs like full kitchens, we’ll help you plan temporary living arrangements if needed.
How do you minimize dust and disruption during construction?
We use protective coverings, dust barriers, and HEPA air scrubbers to keep your home as clean as possible during the project.
Who will be my point of contact during the project?
You’ll have a dedicated project manager who keeps you updated, answers questions, and ensures everything stays on track.
What happens if unexpected issues come up once the project begins?
Unexpected conditions (like plumbing or electrical problems) can arise. If they do, we’ll discuss solutions with you right away and provide updated written estimates before moving forward. Nothing proceeds until you sign off.
Materials & Quality
Can I choose my own materials, or do you choose?
You’re welcome to choose your own materials, or we can guide you through selections from our trusted local suppliers. If you’re looking to work with an interior designer, we have several recommended local partners.
Do you use local suppliers or eco-friendly materials?
Yes, we prioritize local suppliers in Southern Oregon whenever possible, and we’re happy to recommend sustainable, eco-friendly options. Ashland Builders has experience building straw bale homes and other eco-friendly designs.
Do you offer warranties on your work and materials?
Yes, we stand by our craftsmanship. Most of our remodeling work comes with a 1-year warranty on labor, and materials are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
Trust & Experience
Are you licensed and insured in Oregon?
Yes, we are fully licensed, bonded, and insured in the state of Oregon.
How many years of experience do you have in residential remodeling?
We have over 8 years of experience serving homeowners in Ashland and the surrounding communities. Ashland Builders still utilizes the trade network of our founding company, Coleman Creek Construction, which served Ashland for over 20 years.
Can I see photos or references from past projects?
Absolutely — you can view our project gallery online or request references from past clients who are happy to share their experiences.
How do you ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget?
We create a detailed project plan and timeline before starting. Weekly check-ins and transparent communication help us stay aligned and avoid costly delays.
